Rehearsals

5 Dec 2009
Rehearsals have been running their hectic course following the read through. Initially, the cast have been working on the music, getting the complex harmonies under their belts, and building on their singing skills for pop/rock music.

Interleaving with the music rehearsals has been the dancing and acting rehearsals. Its important that the cast know the music, its even more important that the dancers can get used to the singing while pushing their movement to the limit. Along side this, the Director has been stitching the pieces together with the dialogue assembling the final product.

So overall, the 30 or so cast members are putting the show together, working up to 5 days a week assembling the Directors' and Choreographers visions, ready to present it to you in February.

The cast assembled today to meet each other as the complete group, and to read though the script and score.

A large amount of camaraderie has already been created, fueled by laughter and a common focus. Many of the cast had the first opportunity to hear the full script, and the music and songs of the show. Already they are picking up the themes, and with the first singing rehearsal tomorrow, followed by a full Dance Class on Thursday, the actors, singers and dancers getting immersed in the world of High School Musical 2.

The completion of callbacks today has left the Artistic Team with the exciting challenge of pairing actors to roles.

The team were very excited in the way that those recalled for the callbacks 'stepped up', and improved significantly on their previous individual auditions. By the end of the afternoon, every actor, singer, and dancer had been given the opportunity to perform for almost every role in the show. In some cases they were undertaking readings for parts they had not even considered, and it was very satisfying to see the breadth of talent on display.

With just a few late auditions to complete, and the mix of talent to roles to formalise, the Team are expecting to offer roles to individuals in the next few days.
